Specializing in immigration – an area where significant public funds have been cut – this company has shown a strong commitment to continuing to provide legal aid. The judges felt that this team of lawyers had been at the center of everything for 18 months, demonstrating their impressive impact. We jointly won the Pro Bono Award at the annual Birmingham Law Society Legal Awards, thanks to our involvement in the Birmingham Legal Advice Clinic (BLAC). BLAC is a free legal advice and signage service for vulnerable people that went virtual in 2020 and has advised more than 100 clients. The legal awards cover 12 award categories and all entries are judged by an experienced jury of independent jurors from law, business and science. The deadline for nominations is Monday, November 14, 2022, with the awards ceremony taking place on Thursday, March 9, 2023. Large test cases against the central government have been shown to improve the lives of some of society`s most vulnerable people during the pandemic and will have a lasting impact on society and future policy-making. The shortlisted nominees will be interviewed by a jury and the winners will be announced at an awards ceremony at the ICC on March 27. As part of this work, Protect has published reports highlighting whistleblower concerns and launched a legislative reform campaign to better protect those who report when the law is not being followed.
